Junior Kindergarten is a year of discovery about God, friendship and the world around us!
In Junior Kindergarten, an interactive classroom environment allows students to learn through play and discovery. “Morning Meeting” and the “Afternoon Wrap Up” provide opportunities for children to share with one another about what they are learning. Daily centers reinforce concepts taught in class and allow for hands-on exploration and age-appropriate developmental skills.
Bible / Character– Students learn how we are all children of God and how to treat one another with kindness. We apply character qualities to everyday life, both at home and at school.
Phonics – Using a phonics curriculum, students focus on the sounds of the alphabet and preparatory reading skills, such as phonemic awareness and blending.
Handwriting – Students learn to write upper and lowercase letters using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum with an emphasis on correct letter formation and technique.
Math – Foundational math concepts are introduced in an interactive and hands-on format, such as patterning, sequencing, ordinal numbers, and measurement.
Social Studies – Jr. Kindergarteners spend time learning about different seasonal subjects as well as people and places around their city. They celebrate special theme days with fun activities, such as Snow Day or Apple Day!
